I too was fairly young at that time, 12 to be precise. I remember my brother coming in the room I was playing AC1 in and telling me that AC2 was going to come out soon and it's gonna be "7 times better" while I was gallavanting around in Damascus.

That is the same reason why I didn't like the upgrade/weapon system in AC3. You could buy one of the best swords right at the beginning of Sequence 6, and the Assassin Tomahawk was the second or something best short weapon that could be bought. There would be no need to have any of the other weapons unless you were a completionist (which I am unfortunately) and had to fill the armoury in the Homestead Manor, or wanted to do that last tier of Boston Brawlers challenges and complete it.
