The Cold War wasn't a bloodbath, it was unrest, plain and simple. Two nations... USA and Russia at each other's necks. There was promise of a HOT War but it never happened. They were basically threatening each other with nuclear proportion... it was a time of great fear. Radiation was a big thing in those days. If they were to set a game there... what's the point? As far as I know, no one killed anybody...
