If this rumour is true then I'll be surprised, I always thought that the French Revolution was much more appropriate for the world of Assassin's Creed. However I can understand why they would choose the American Revolution for AC3 because it's the last game with Desmond and he's in America about to enter the Grand Temple. It makes sense that the ancestor whose memories he must visit would have lived in America and not France. He was born in America so it stands to reason he'd have a few interesting American ancestors. I'm sure the French Revolution will be used for future AC games but here we have a main character whose American ancestry would be most convenient.
