not to mention the various templar quasi-assassins we see in the games, we already know they had their own version of the hidden blade. one user mentioned that one of the poisons you can get in game (from brotherhood or revelations...can't remember) causes heart attack like symptoms, datura poison caused a quick easy death too in revelations. and in brotherhood you find countless "venetian poison rings" so I find it pretty believable that the young man could have held importance for the future. we all remember the very nonchalant/unsuspecting "why, they were gifts Mr. Miles, from Those Who Came Before" from ac1, I see no reason that the young man would be a red herring, that's just nor Ubisofts style.
