The Templars never abandoned liberalism just because the Assassins started to support it. They realised their aims were similar, the Assassins just had a different idea of how to enact it and for what purpose. This game is the conclusion of this story arc, so I wouldnt be surprised to see a twist to the story. My theory is that the liberalist Revolutionaries will offer the Assassins something, only to go back on the deal. This fits with the period and character. Native Americans were promised their land but the colonists abused the terms of the agreement. We are going to see a dark age for the Assassins which will challenge their existence, as a result of the Templars creating a superpower.
