Maybe. I think the red trail in Brotherhood was just to help you find your way back, I don't think the developers gave much thought to what color it was. Besides, seeing where people have been will be an ability Ezio has in Revelations, (though it's evolved into Eagle Sense as opposed to Vision) and that's when he's much older and experienced. Desmond doesn't have that kind of experience yet.
