But, anyways, from what I know of the situation, Lucy couldn't get the information without syncing Desmond with Subject 16, because he had extensively used the Animus. The Animus was searching for the relevant data to do that, going back through the DNA data of both Desmond and Subject 16, stopping once it finally found the first match: Ezio. Basically, the Animus was going back in time to find a link, and as soon as it found the closest link, it stopped searching, sycned the two together, and allowed Lucy to download the data, as Desmond was experiencing Ezio's birth.

That's what I understood, that Ezio was the closest, final link between the two subjects, and so, since that means that they couldn't have descended from the same child, logically, Ezio would've had to of had two children.
