In my opinion AC:R was good, not great but good, i think it helped alot that i started with BH (but have played 1 and 2 before R)

AC:R wasn't different enough to be great and its difference were to different to be great (and we all know how gamers (sterotypically) are very anti change) and since ubisoft didn't really stress that R was going to be different the difference were a shock and we didn't embrace them as we mostly likely will in AC3.

But to me thats why AC is a very strong series, if it gets stale with on character it just make a new character and a new time period and can shake it up alot, with other series they couldn't do this without creating a new series.
