their goals and ideology was similar to the Assassins, but there is speculation on whether the Templars infiltrated them to learn their 'secrets'. I think some of the higher Masons might've have been Templars, especially since high degree Masons strived to become God of Man, much like the Templars do. 16 wrote in Desmond's room at Abstergo a Bible verse that talked about becoming God of Man.

There is also a statue of Washington where he is in the same pose as a 'God' of Man, but not the 'God' of Christianity.

Basically what I'm saying is that there is a possibily that the Freemasons were a society affiliated with the Assassins in terms of ideologies, but infiltrated by Templars in order to 'corrupt' the group.
