Because we could use a protagonist in the vein of Al and Ezio-after-induction, who put the Brotherhood first, and their personal motives second.

Because, like Slate said, as much as I like Ed, he became an assassin only because "hey, this pirate thing didn't work out, everyone got killed off, and all the cool kids are doing it anyway."

And we don't even need to mention Mr. WHEREISCHARLESLEE.
