It's quite a common myth that the word 'Assassin' came from the word 'Hashashin'...... Assassin came from the word 'Asasyn' which means 'Foundations'...... This was long before even Hassan-i Sabbah (He just ran the Syrian branch, the Persian one has been going since BC)...... The leader back then called them 'The Foundations of a New World' hence 'Asasyn'...... And yes, I am of their ancestry though it's not been openly 'practiced' for the last couple of generations......
