"At one point they have to move forward." Why?

The modern day storyline isn't 'the' aspect of the series, it's the ancestors part. The storyline doesn't have to take place after 2012 to be able to view genetic memories of ancestors. I'd easily like to find out about all previous subjects, but not necessarily through games only.
