I look at ac3 multiplayer as you are playing yourself Abstergo sent out this multiplayer game to see if they can find new recruits... so you pretty much level up all the way Abstergo sees you have potential, so to see if you would be a good new recruit they have you live the life of Aveline in AC3:L so you pass the qualification with that game and AC4:BF you are the new Employee and it takes off from there. Thats just me, it kinda feels like they connect in that way.
