A pretty late post now.

About the Templars being more in the Byzantines side, is that Manuel would support the Templars only if they helped his people(which means help them take over Constantinople) so Prince Ahmet would give them the city in exchange for their loyalty.

The now expanded Byzantine would be governed by the Templars and a powerful ally: Manuel.
