"because Ezio lived there and it contains the Vatican which are both (in my opinion) crucial to the story.." They're not crucial to the story at all. Ezio is just a part of the overall AC storyline, and the Vatican plays a very, very little role. If they were so important, they'd be heavily featured in the first Assassin's Creed and in Assassin's Creed: The Fall. And they aren't.
