The conversation they have when Ade gives the box to Bastienne is interesting SPOILER.

Bastienne: Have you come to say goodbye?

Ade: For now, but not without giving you this.

Ade: After all this time, you've lost interest?

Bastienne: You're not worried it will fall into Templar hands?

Ade: I fear worse things now, no Templar plot can equal your wrath.

Bastienne: You try to make light, at a time like this?

Ade: Only to lighten my sorrow at leaving.

Bastienne: I have no one left to sell this to... i will keep it for memory.

They are both talking about whats inside the box like they are very familiar with it and maybe even know its history. It is important enough that they should keep it away from Templars but then Bastienne means she could risk selling it to someone (possibly someone she worked with as she said she has no one left to sell it to) so i dont think its as important as a POE. Ade gave it to her as some sort of gift and trusted her with it.

Perhaps it is remnants of a broken POE or a broken artifact that still holds magical properties similar to Rasputins necklace with the shard of the Staff. Perhaps it is a map to another temple or artifact. If it is the same box from Embers then i think the chances of it being a POE are even higher because this certain POE would have been brought over from China to the Colonial assassins similar to the rope darts and the story of this POE will be greatly important and more explained in AC5. I could speculate forever but it deffinetly has something to do with the box at the end of AC Embers.
