First of all, that's not a multiplayer mode. That's co-operative play.

To the commenter directly above me, having players to help you out during story missions would make the game too easy, and could end up desynchronising you if they were spotted in a mission where you must not be seen.

Assassin's Creed isn't difficult enough that you have to have someone else hold your hand while you play. It's up to you to figure out how to advance, and if you fail, you try another method or you work on your timing.
