If the game will be Desmond only it will probably be boring lineair gameplay. Desmond doesn't have the time to roam around anywhere, nor would he be safe from the Templars in any location at this point. Obviously there will be a new ancestor, but that doesn't mean Desmond's storyline will suffer for it. You can't jump to any conclusions whether or not the game will be bad right now. And if Desmond needs to find keys too, then that would just be a simple modern-day copy of Revelations and completely unoriginal. Desmond has only two months until December 21, starting a wild search for keys would not really fit into that time schedule, I would think.
