To answer the "taking firearms" question, I think it looks like you can. After all, in one scene of the gameplay trailer, Connor is countering the guard using a musket, that looks identical to the one the guards are using in the trailer. I think it'd be fun to run around stealing guns from people (finally!), but having only like one shot, because muskets take like 20 seconds to reload, not practical in close combat. After which it'd be cool to wield it as a spear.
