I agree with Hawkam in that I was expecting Desmond to actually utilize the skills they made us pretend like he learned so that he could do something awesome with them. But, if they were going to kill Desmond the way they did, I would have preferred that he'd either have had a child (unlikely, possibly) or his parents (his mother is never seen but William Miles confirms her survival at the point of AC III) having another child that could follow Desmond's footsteps. Except the sibling/child would have to contend with fighting against Juno instead of the Templars. The child/sibling would have (prior to the game) have already gone through these previous ancestors to be the Desmond we were expecting to get at the end, instead of what we really got.
