Actually, Altair could SWIM, the fact that he couldn't swim in AC1 was becuase in those particular memories he never went into the water. Remember when Adha was captured and you saw Altair on the shoreline overlooking the horizon and yelling "I will find you, Adha, I swear!"? (Something like that) If you paid close attention to the textures, his robes were soaken wet... Proving that he could in FACT SWIM. I frequent FanFiction many times a year and notice that people have taken the concept of him not swimming and creating a type of hydrophobia (Not to be confused with the chemical) out of it. What I found strange was the fact that Ubisoft decided to skip Sequences 12 and 13, in Assassin's Creed 2, and go right ahead into Sequence 14 which prompted us to find the remaining codex pages (Which many players didn't have - they were too engrossed in the story). Then they release them as DLCs.
