In AC3, when hunting i target a deer and shoot the bow but it only stuns the deer and it runs away, i hold the shoot button down longer for a more powerful hit but doesn't work. Is this a glitch?

If it is a glitch then i hope it's fixed, also what weapon will Edward use to hunt?
