A similar personality would work great. The problem is with consistency. Most characters have mood-swings that shift their character 180 and their very beliefs and code which they have respected for like their entire life.

Look at Ezio. The guy clearly wanted to finish Rodrigo off once and for all but after a short nap induced by being stabbed he chases after Rodrigo and lets him live..... da fuq? You only needed a short nap to change your mind? That makes no sense. In reality it would take much much longer for you to change the mindset you've had for like I don't know... years.
