They say that now but they're constantly changing their mind....... If I remember, they said that the series would start with Ezio but make alot of references to Altair throughout and then a few months later, decided they were going to do a whole game for Altair...... It may just turn out to be supplementary information but I wouldn't say it's set in stone yet......
