In another piece of info, the writer specifically said that "{...}one of our major goals with Assassin’s Creed is to transport players to times and places not normally visited in games.'
That not only excludes Middle Ages for being heavily portrayed in games, but AC1 took place in the high of middle ages (so we would visit it again? x.x). Btw, adressing your comment, 1500 was the birth of the High Renaissance in the progression of the Great Navegations, way into the Renaissance per si and waaaay after the middle ages ended (around late 15th century, 1470 or near).
We'll probably hear more info about it, specially as we approach the E3.
