Well.... not exactly, Ezio was thrown into the fray since he is of traditional Assassin lineage ergo his father was causing too much trouble for the Templars. With Connor, his bad luck was such that he was found by the Templars AND his village was set on fire through Washington's orders on the same day. Technically if Haytham were aware of the whole thing, then Lee would never have gone to the village and Connor wouldn't have his grudge match and the whole "WHERE IS CHARLES LEE!?".

And Ezio was desperate and just wanted to protect/avenge his family while as Connor wanted to do a part for his people and Juno gave him the clue to doing so. So the circumstances were very different. Ezio did not go to Mario for the same reasons. Connor was wanting all this, Ezio just wanted to get away.
