I think the ending of AC3 was meant to leave fans unsure. It wasn't a "happy ending," but I think it was powerful nonetheless. Connor is a tragic hero, very Shakespearean. Native American tribes were forced to move because their land had been purchased, so it was inevitable that Connor would find his village gone. It would be altering historical facts (the AC team is well known for being accurate) if the game ended with his village still intact with his people roaming about like nothing had changed. I hear ya, though, it's unsettling to see Connor so depressed, brought to the ground when he had fought so hard for so long just to return to a piece of his past that was actually pleasant.

I do like your idea on seeing Connor train other assassins in the aftermath. However, I just don't see him with a wife and children. Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be lovely if he found a home life and raised children the way he wanted to be raised and loved. I just don't see him being that revealing of himself to another person in an intimate way. He reminds me so much of Batman that I see him continuously fighting in the Assassin Order until he is an old man (much like Bruce Waye in the Batman Beyond series).

Overall, sounds like you have some plot-bunnies roaming about. :)
