It would be very easy to made a safety lock on the hidden blade mechanism, a small hole in a gear which then has a small iron bar in that hole, the bar would be connected to a lock. (it would stop the gear to turn around and thus the blade to come out) However this will make the mechanism a little bit noisy as every time you flex the "certain muscle in your fore-arm" you force the iron parts to grind onto eachother. (it could be prevented by using wooden gears, but they aren't as reliable as metal ones)
