ok look at the image better, the ropes are not connected together, they are garrisoned on the different parts of the rock. Also the wikia contributor has a point because Altair had no idea of Ezio, he might have seen the vision about Ezio and then tought about leaving something for him. Like walking in the battlefield of masyaf
