AC II and Brotherhood also have trailers like that - cinematic, but no gameplay. You're basically watching a movie with content that doesn't have to be in the game. Or did you face Cesare in Brotherhood head on with your apprentices? No. So this doesn't say anything about the commercial success of this game.
