Too hard to program my ass. In Unity trailer, there's a bit clearly showing Arno adoping a few frames of the old walking used by Al and Ezio, before going into his own walking animation. This proves they're still using assets that are factually ancient by now, coming from the very first playable versions of the engine.

And they're trying to say it would be too hard to lift Aveline's animations off Liberation HD, tweak them a bit and use them here? Not bloody likely. And it wouldn't really matter if thinking about co-op made no sense - since your character is always Arno, and the same is true for everyone else, it doesn't matter if -others- see your character as a woman, as there seem to be no speaking interaction between you and the NPCs in co-op.
