I would question the logic of making Shao Jun a playable character given she'd be 62 when she kills Jiajing. Granted she had to spend much time rebuilding the Chinese Brotherhood but sheesh, Ubisoft need to find an event from Chinese history more suited to telling a coherent story.

Still I disagree she's just around in Embers, she's the instigator, Ezio would have died a couple of years later had her pursuers not exacerbated his heart condition. I think she has a more sizeable fanbase than other female Assassins like Maria Thorpe, Claudia, Lucy, or Mary because she is one of the protagonists.
