You're missing the anon's point. Or you're purposefully avoiding it. What the anon said is that shortly after Mary died, Edward decided that he needed a new path, and once he chose to join the Assassins and took their beliefs and ideals into heart, he was for all intents and purposes an Assassin. Him not being officially inducted is more of a technicality.
