I'll bite: Project Legacy was just to promote Brotherhood and The Da Vinci Disappearance. Discover Your Legacy was the viral promotion for Revelations while Initiates promoted ACIII and Black Flag and will return for Unity and Rogue, and hopefully expand on Memories' new characters.

Or maybe not? It's been almost five years since ACII and there haven't even been any spin-offs for the characters introduced by the Altair armor storyline.
