Its to be expected, more and more advanced weapons became available, and even if we are going back 60 years there are still many advanced weapons, compared to previous installments,  in contradiction to this, nothing changed much in the 18th century  in terms of weaponry, and why can't Edward have 4 pistols, he coud have ten if he has enough space around his body, i think it is just Ubisofts way of moving with history.
