Well if you look at the codex pages and the stone plates in the Family Crypt (bonus level you get with UPlay), you first know that Altaïr and Maria had kids. And not everything is explained, but Ezio's great-grandfather (or great-greatgrandfather) lived in Venice. So one of Altaïr's descendants somehow got to Venice which had international connections due to its ports.
