The fall and rise of Altaïr was a series of events during the Third Crusade in which Assassin, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad was demoted to a novice and then worked his way back up the ranks of the Order, ultimately succeeding his mentor, Al Mualim, as Grand Master of the Assassin Order.

A well known Assassin, Altaïr was tasked with retrieving an artifact from Jerusalem. Failing to do so, he was stripped of his title and demoted to a novice. Given a chance at redeeming himself, Altaïr set out on a quest to reclaim his lost honor, eventually learning many secrets of the Assassins and Templars.
