Because they have explicitly said so on a former Ubisoft show/demo whatever, and the Encyclopedia confirms that the books are canon where they games are not. For example about Claudia stepping down as Madam of the Rosa in Fiore in 1504, yet in TDVD she is still Madam in 1506... And that TSC is canon while the Altaïr memories from ACR are not. I suppose the canon is their reason for releasing the books in the first place...<ac_metadata title=""> </ac_metadata>
