Date of death[edit source]
Why did Crook change the date of death to 1776?--188.180.174.234 08:17, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
- The game can sometimes be a little indecisive when it comes to dates :s The 1773 date of death comes from the panning shot at the start of Sequence 7, which says that the year is "currently" 1773. The three missions in said sequence all take place fairly shortly after one another, so logically we assumed Philippe died in 1773.
- However, there are a number of sources that speak against this: his in-game database entry explicitly states the year as 1776, as does the Assassin's Creed: Encyclopedia. When opening the map during this sequence, you'll also see the 1776 date at the top right of your screen. Finally, I did some research and, as it turns out, the Governor of Louisiana, Luis de Unzaga (who served in the position from 1770-1777, but isn't named in the game) did actually send supplies to Patriots at one point (this historic tidbit is most likely the origin of Sequence 7's memory "Supplying the Revolution"). Said occurence also took place in 1776 (which is more likely than 1773, when the American Revolution was, to my knowledge, not a thing yet).
- All this evidence speaks against the 1773 date, but because the 1773 date is far more overtly shown than the 1776 date, we mistakenly went with the former. Crook The Constantine District 08:29, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
I see your point, but Initiates says its 1773 and Geralds letter in "A fools errand" also seems to suggest this--188.180.174.234 08:39, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
- I see your point as well :p To be perfectly honest, Gérald's letter in "A Fool's Errand" was the only thing that made me doubt the 1776 thing just a tad. As for Initiates, they use the exact same sources as we do and probably made the exact same mistake. They also put Sequence 2 in 1765, simply because the panning shot says so, even though all other evidence suggests 1766. Crook The Constantine District 08:43, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
