English Army

This article was actually long overdue, as I had been meaning to create it for years. There are actually four Crusader factions in Assassin's Creed, with the Lionheart Crusaders often being forgotten, and since we have pages for the other three factions, it made sense for us to have one on the Lionheart Crusaders as well. To keep things more streamlined, I had always intended the page on the Lionheart Crusaders to be a general page on the English Army.

I was going to rename this page to "English Army" (note the capitalization as well). However, I read on Wikipedia that England didn't have a professional army until after the English Civil War, which makes perfect sense. So then I considered that we should only have an article on the Lionheart Crusaders specifically, seeing as all other major iterations of the English military we encounter in Assassin's Creed is technically the British military. But then I remembered that we still have the English soldiers we encounter in the medieval sequences of Assassin's Creed: Unity's rift missions. Also, the English army—professional or not—appears in Assassin's Creed: Heresy, and I would say are significant enough to be described. So I am now thinking that this page should be a general page on the English military or army, rather than being a page specifically about the professional English Army. Thoughts? If its just a page for the English army/military in general, it seems too broad, it'd cover a lot of history. Why not break it up some. Info for "Lionheart Crusaders" shouldnt that just be included in Crusaders, generally? I think "English Army" (for the army the existed between 1660–1707) should be its own page, we already have a page for British Army and Royal Navy. During the English Civil War the armies were the Parliamentarian "New Model Army" and then just the "Royalist Army". In the state that existed by 1660, I don't think there was anything close to an actual "English Army" beforehand. During the fiefdom of England, for battles the "army" were just called upon men. The reason why the Lionheart Crusaders shouldn't just be merged into Crusaders is because Teutonic Knights, Knights Hospitalier, and Knights Templar all have their own distinct pages. Since the Crusaders in the game are actually divided into four subfactions, not just these three, it is poor organization for 3/4 of them to have their own pages while one of them for some reason does not. This is in spite of the fact that the Templars merit their own page for another much more major reason—that being that they're the main antagonists of the whole series.

I was thinking along the way to split this article into "Lionheart Crusaders", "New Model Army", "Royalist Army", and "English Army", but I stopped when I realized that the actual, professional English Army has never appeared in Assassin's Creed as far as I know. In terms of major appearances of the English military, we've only seen the Lionheart Crusaders in AC1 and the British Army in AC3, Black Flag, and Rogue. Because of this, I don't think there is enough content to justify an article on the actual English Army.

Apart from this, we've seen English soldiers in the medieval Helix rift of Unity, they are mentioned in that short chapter on the English Civil War in Project Legacy, and I am assuming they feature in the novel Heresy which I still have not read. These brief and minor appearances in side-media are worth mentioning, but I think the information is so scant that they can just all be included in a general article on the English military. I still won't mind splitting this article into all of those if you guys think that is better since I think there should be an article on Roundheads or Parliamentarians anyways, but I don't know what we would name the English army as they appear in Heresy and in Unity's medieval Helix rift. Heresy and in Unity's medieval Helix rift are both during the Hundred Years' War yes? Wouldn't "English army" (with a lower-case 'a') technically be correct? They were English...and an army. Yeah, but see, if we're going to have an "English army" article just for the Hundred Years' War. Why not then just include the Lionheart Crusaders within it? After all, neither would have much content and when people see the name "English army", one would think that also includes the English military in any other era. So I think having an article on the English army in the Hundred Years' War titled "English army" would necessarily defeat the idea of breaking "Lionheart Crusaders" into a separate article.
