The poison seems to be a play on of the movie Crank in which the main character is dosed with a poison cocktail that if he slows down he dies.

I highly doubt that. Also, the whole mechanic is ass-backwards - physical exertion would speed the blood flow, spreading the poison through the body, rather than slowing its effects. Not here to discuss the science behind fiction (see what I did there?), but (and for a moment, deleting every bit of Science I know) if there's a neurotoxin that works by inhibiting the beating of the heart, but not stopping the influence of external stimulus on the same, such effect may be observed.

Implications

Just an observation, but (re)playing through this memory, I personally conclude that there's a strong hinting at what is thus far a non-canon "ship" - Shay and Hope.

The implication of romantic affection between the two is there, there's a difference between romantic feelings and being a couple. Romantic affection is a spectrum, and two people can exhibit hints of them long before they ever they really confirm those feelings or enter into a relationship. That is to say, just because they gave some hints of it, doesn't mean they were lovers per se, and shipping is when two people actually finalize the love by becoming an official couple. I'm pretty sure Steven Piovesan confirmed in a podcast that Shay at least nursed a crush on Hope, though I doubt she ever returned his affections. Most of this would fall under assumption/speculation anyways, but we could, in theory, mention Steven Piovesan's comment on ShayxHope in Shay's trivia. Not sure about the podcast though. Shay naturally had feelings for her; she did not reciprocate, as I could piece from Lessons and Revelations.
