Assassin/Templar percents

When you buy them, the books have -/+ percentage with either an assassin or templar symbol. What does this value do exactly? My assumption has been that it decreases awareness, but I'm having difficulty finding a straight answer.

Every non-consumable purchase (be it shops, weapons, etc.) increases awareness, in what I assume was an attempt to stop people from purchasing too much (I don't really understand why).

No, it's Tax for Templars, and Discount for Assassins. Basically, you pay more with the Templar tax put on an item in Templar-controlled area, and you get a discount once you liberate it and renovate shops. --Kainzorus Prime ^{Walkie-talkie} 00:40, May 3, 2013 (UTC)
