Sostratus of Cnidus was a Greek architect and engineer, known for being the architect of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Sometime after the completion of the lighthouse, Sostratus issued a note to soldiers garrisoned in the lighthouse, tasking them to regularly inspect the light-coloured stones that were reinforced with molten lead to protect the walls from the crashing ocean waves.
