Skidbladnir Smida

Skidbladnir Smida (Runic: ᛋᚴᛁᛏᛒᛚᛅᛏᚾᛁᚱ ᛋᛘᛁᛏᛅ) was the dwarven forge and shipyard in western Svaladal, Svartálfaheimr where Freyr's longship Skíðblaðnir was created.

History[edit | edit source]

In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time in Svartalfheim, the Æsir lord discovered the forge in a middle of a lake under a constant storm. There, he recalled the time Loki commissioned Ivaldi's sons to craft the ship Skíðblaðnir for Freyr as one of the gifts he needed to regain favor in Ásgarðr. The resulting ship was massive and constructed well enough to fit all of Asgard's best into combat. Its ability to shrink made it possible for Loki to give to Freyr, who was later pleased with his ship.[1]
