The Shishi Guard was a type of light shield hailing from China that featured a guardian lion on the front.
In the late 9th century, the shield came into the possession of Theodric, the ealdorman of Oxenefordscire, who kept it at the Cyne Belle Castle. Later on in the 870s, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir acquired the shield.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Shishi Guard, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, shares the same model as the Guardian Lion shield in Assassin's Creed: Origins as part of the Eastern Dynasties Pack. The name Shishi is alternative name for the Chinese guardian lions.
