The mother (died 1731) of Shay Cormac was a native of Dublin, Ireland, who immigrated to America with her husband and the rest of their family. Settling in New York City, she gave birth to Shay on 12 September[1] 1731, but died from complications shortly thereafter.[2]
As a result of her death, Shay grew up without a mother and was raised by his aunt due to his father being too preoccupied with his work in the merchant marine.[2]
