Saburoemon Hara

Saburoemon Hara was a Japanese brothel owner, active during the reign of samurai Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Saburoemon's main claim to fame was the establishment of Kyoto's pleasure quarters, having suggested to Hideyoshi to gather the courtesans in particular places, rather than leaving the then-chaotic state of sex work alone. These pleasure quarters allowed for more security to the workers and for taxing of the services, which Saburoemon paid to Hideyoshi.
