9th century Port Walton

Port Walton was an Anglo-Saxon stronghold, a military base, and a port in Essexe, England.

History[edit | edit source]

In 875, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir travelled to the port to rescue the Norse warriors under Rollo, after dealing with an apparent traitor in Rollo's crew. After releasing Rollo's men from their cages, Eivor and Rollo's warriors attacked the stronghold from within and took out all the Saxon soldiers. Afterwards, Rollo came to the port's docks and thanked Eivor for the rescue of his men. Eivor and Rollo soon agreed to aid the Lady of Essexe, Estrid, once again.[1]

Probing the area, Eivor opened a chest and claimed a nickel ingot.[2]

Behind the Scenes[edit | edit source]

According to the namesake, "Walton" is a common meaning of a "farmstead or village of the Britons."
