Games and Jaunts aside, well done, my little Explorer. Well done, my James! I never doubted you. Within the Chest are Baubles and Trinkets that should bring you some Joy, while I'm gone. It will be some time before I return, but take Courage! For the Treasure was not the real Prize, but the intrepid Spirit that brought you there. Hold fast to that until I am with you again.

Du Casse has requested more guards for his manor. My life is but to serve his every inconsequential whim, apparently. As such, the new roster is as follows:
First watch – Crodero and García
Second watch – Martín and Gutiérrez
Third watch – Sánchez and Díaz
Fourth watch – Delgado and Navarro
Paintings, I regret,
Sculptures, I despise.
For none can reflect,
The beauty of mine eyes.
Look in thy glass,
And tell whose visage you see.
Alas!
None are quite so handsome as thee.
To any and all who may reade this Missive, know First that I am Thom Kavanagh, born in 1652, formerly of Boston, now of the Worlde, living in the year 1706;—taken to Isolation long ago in the playce of my Ancestors in pursuite of Peace and Steadieness of Spirit. My storie is a singular one, though I make no Claim to Greatness or Nobility. Yet there is such an amount of Strangeness in my Blood it bears Mention, with the Wish that a better Understanding may come from my Situation;—and with the Hope that, if there be any others in the Worlde who suffer the same Perturbations of Minde as I have since Birth, they might find in me a kindred Soul;—and a friendly Voice to guide them to the calmer Shores of Sanitie....
In plaine Words, I was borne a Creature of two Souls, one being my owne, newly Mint'd and fresh upon the World's Stage;—yet, the other being an old and wyse Thing, a Soul as old as the Universe itself may be. Two Souls, therefore, in a single Body, competing for Supremacie.
For as long as I have been a thinking Being, I have felt these two Tydes stirring within me. How this mysterious Incorporation should have occurr'd shall be the Subject of future Lettyrs...
Dear Bernard,
I should begin with an Apology. Verano House has succumbed to a State far lower than your Standards would allow, and yet there is little Time for upkeep as we have acquired a Visitor. A Frenchman calling himself Du Casse arrived, saying he knew the previous Owners. I cannot recall ever seeing him before, and can find no mention of him in our Records. However, he insists and so I am obliged to accommodate him, despite feeling quite uncertain about the Matter.
There is a roquish Air about the Man that puts me on Edge. Most concerning, he has taken a particular interest in my Son. He watches him for long Periods, saying Nothing. There is no Kindness in his Gaze. I've told the Boy to avoid him and he keeps to the Yard, training with the Blade you gave him. You have taught him well, but still I worry. He is so young, and that Blade seems to be what fascinates our Guest–
