Myrto was an Elean girl living near the Linou Farm in a little house with her father Akatos in the 5th century BCE Elis, Greece.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Brought up by her father as a skilled hunter, Myrto decided to prove herself when Akatos injured himself. Promising to hunt while he couldn't, Myrto left for the Forest of Pholos, east of Linou.[1]
Failing to catch the deer, Myrto remained in the forest far longer than she intended. Unbeknownst to her, the Spartan misthios Kassandra, whom the villagers of Linou revered as 'the Eagle Bearer', was sent to look for her at some point. Awestruck upon meeting her hero, Myrto watched Kassandra, before running back home while Kassandra finished her hunt.[1]
Back in Linou, Myrto offered to help the priestess Hexione prepare the feast for the Eagle Bearer. Doing as she was told, Myrto stole a taste of the feast, unaware that the priestess had poisoned the food.[2]
Struck down by the poison and unable to tell what had happened, Myrto suffered while Akatos and the visiting Argive sculptor Polykleitos stood watch over her. Meanwhile, Kassandra sought a cure for Myrto.[2]
Once she had recovered, Myrto was back to her old self.[2]
